Also known as the National museum of Bahrain ,is the largest and one of the oldest public museums in Bahrain. It also is the first Museum in the Arabian Gulf, It's constructed near the King Faisal Highway in Manama and was opened in December 1988.Opening hours are from 8am to 8pm.The entry fees is 1BD(bahraini dinar) which converts to 2.65US dollar, ksh 265.
I visited the Museum on a friday morning with a friend, i had checked online the times when there isn't too much crowds and was advised mostly early mornings and late evenings, apparently afternoons are the most packed like most museums around the world .So we avoided that timing. The site itself ,on the edge of the sea(persian sea) is a tremendous attraction ,adding to its contemporary ambience which is influenced by the dramatic courtyard decorated with contemporary sculptures.
On entry we paid at the reception and a smiley arabian gentleman welcomed us.Apparently the museum doesn't offer a tour guide since almost everything in the museum has writing on the edge of it explaining everything both in english and arabic. So to all of y'all who like tours you have to go hire one yourself with the tour guide services(be prepared to dig deep into your pockets).
The exhibition halls showcase artefacts uncovered in the numerous archaeological sites in Bahrain and underpinning the longstanding history of the island. The rich collection covers 6000 years of the country's history. Two halls are dedicated to local customs and traditions including clothing, housing ,rituals and traditional crafts.Adjacent to the National Museum is the Art centre and cultural Hall, both of which host temporary exhibitions and concerts throughout the year.
We had a great time and would recommend visiting the place .We went there using a taxi,There are Bahraini buses around the country but the buses have specific bus stops, therefore if you take the bus you will have to walk to the museum which is quite a distance but it's good cardio :).
