Kenya Railway Museum, located off Uhuru Highway in the City Centre, represents the historical growth of Kenya through the construction of the railway line from Mombasa to Kisumu. Entry fees for Adult citizens is sh.200 and Pupil citizens sh.100. Opening hours 8:00 am to 5pm

The Railway Museum exhibits old steam engines approximately 10 in number which were built between 1923 and 1955 and presents the historical growth of Kenya narrating the tale of the country’s evolvement; indeed, it is the railroad that developed Kenya to the country it is today.

On entry there is a long drive before reaching the actual entrance of the Museum. I came by public means so i just walk through the entire stretch and trust me it's worthwhile. An amazing array of street graffiti is on the walls of the entire walk. On coming in, you can see the old rusty trains on your left hand side it's truly mind blowing.

The museum consists of the Main Gallery (collection of smaller items), the Museum Resource Centre (library and photographic section), the Auditorium, and an Outdoor Collection of Steam Engines build at the turn of the century. The carriages are full of historical photographs and relics from the time when railway construction workers first arrived in Nairobi. Two steam locomotives have been restored to working order and can be seen in the railway workshop near the museum. Notable points: 1 - Filming and documentary shooting allowed at the museum with prior arrangements with the management at a fee, 2 - Assorted souvenir’s prices are displayed at the museum’s gift shop. It's a lovely place if you are one who loves history since it indulges you from the beginning of the introduction of trains in Kenya to what is present now.
