The Museum aims to interpret Kenya’s rich heritage and offers a one stop for visitors to sample the country’s rich heritage both for education and leisure. The museum is open on all 356 days throughout the year from 08:30am-5:30pm. Nairobi National Museum is located at the Museum Hill, approximately 10 minutes drive from the Nairobi city centre accessible both by public and private means. Entrance fee is sh.200 (museum only) for citizens although there is a combined ticket sh.300 (museum+snake park+botanical gardens).

The artworks and materials used in the fabrication of outdoor sculptures, the landscaping and the botanic gardens, link to the four pillars of Kenya’s national heritage i.e. nature, culture, history and contemporary art.The Museum is quite modern and really beautiful. The museum presents Kenya’s History, Nature, Culture and Contemporary Art in its entire splendor. Also within the grounds are the famous Snake Park, Botanical Gardens and Nature Trail. It has everything you would ever want to know about Kenya.

A display of different species of animals are in the first section once you enter the museum. Apparently the animals' bodies are preserved in such a way that they maintain their natural physical forms although their insides have been removed of course because they will rot ( i know it sounds disgusting but it's just good to know). Trust me once you see them displayed you will not even think about it instead will get overwhelmed by their realness.

Any way we visited the place with my brother, i had a great time especially when we reached the section where there is an entire hall dedicated to different varieties of artwork made by different artist all over Africa.

We also visited the snake park, I honestly dislike snakes the way they slither and slide all over the place is a no no, but i still appreciate their existence and how some have pretty, colourful and unique skin. To be honest i was quite disappointed with the number of snakes that were there. I expected the place to have a vast variety of snake species. But all in all i appreciate what the museum is doing to conserve the snakes.

I don't have much to say about the botanical gardens as well, there is an aquarium with different types of fishes and amphibians. It's quite a small area really, spent less than 10 mins in the place. Although the most amazing part of the museum for me was the nature trail that you come across on the outside. You get to witness a beautiful view of Nairobi and just get one on one with nature. Especially if you just need sometime to clear your mind. You can carry a leso/ shawl to create a picnic, there is also picnic seats all over. There is a souvenir boutique is you want to pick up some african artwork ,african print lesos or crafted statues of animals and all that good stuff.
