Ngare Ndare Forest Day Hiking trip

Ngare Ndare Forest is a lush indigenous forest at the foot of Mt.Kenya.It's approximately 4 hours from Nairobi to Nanyuki in Laikipia County.The entry charges for Residents is sh.2000 and non-Residents sh.3000 inclusive of the tour guide,who are usually armed since the wildlife roam around freely so just to avoid any fatalities.The Ngare Ndare Forest links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to Mt.Kenya and one which Elephants have been using for centuries.

So we left Nairobi at 6am,we stopped over at Nanyuki town to freshen up.It took us another hour to the forest.It was around 10:30 am, On arrival a young lady briefed us on the overview of the forest and handed us over to a tour guide,Zablon and yes i've mentioned him because he was so patient with our group and answered all our random questions ,therefore i would totally recommend him.Shout out to him if he ever reads this.

The hike through the forest took around 6hrs to and fro.The forest has some of the ancient African Olive and Red Cedar trees.As you pass through the terrain gets steeper so you will be doing abit of cardio going up.We came across a mummy Elephant with its cub on our way to the the Ngare Ndare falls.The waterfalls are so pretty and deep enough to dive in.so if you are brave enough you can jump in the chilly water.And by chilly i mean Chilly i came to learn that they are melt water of the snow from Mt.Kenya.

Afterwards we headed to the sky canopy walkway which is a 40feet high aerial bridge of wire mesh and cables meandering through the tree canopy and extending 450 metres long.The walkway ends at a wooden platform 30 feet high where you can relax and enjoy a stunning view of the river from this elavated vantage point.We later enjoyed a lunch picnic and team building activities .We departed for Nairobi late in the evening around 6 pm.

Ngare Ndare also allows Camping where you carry your own own camping gear and food since the facility does not provide .It surely is a fun place for thrill seekers.
